OCD

OCD

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a chronic disorder

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD is a chronic disorder that leads to repetitive or recurring thoughts (such as certain numbers, shapes or colours are good while others are bad), which may be termed as “obsessions”, and/or uncontrollable behaviours, like washing your hands 7 times in a row, which may be termed as compulsions. OCD can affect children, adolescents and adults and its cause is unknown although research into the subject is ongoing. It has been found that children might have OCD after a Streptococcal infection.

Symptoms of OCD

Symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder are not enjoyable, take up a significant amount of an individual’s day and may interfere with work, domestic life or your social life. Some common signs of OCD are –

  • Arranging things in a particular order or unusual detail to symmetry
  • Repeatedly checking on things, such as locks or ovens, etc.
  • Excessive cleaning or hand washing from a fear of contamination
  • Compulsive counting
  • Uncontrolled thoughts even when one recognises them to be irrational or excessive
  • Self-Isolating or withdrawal from social activities
  • A sense of relief and not pleasure at having completed an obsessive behaviour or ritual

If you feel that you have any of these symptoms, please refrain from self diagnosing. OCD can be diagnosed only by a Doctor or Psychiatrist or a certified Clinical Psychologist or Rehabilitational Psychologist. Contact us today to set up an appointment for online Psychological counselling as well as a Psychological assessment test to help pinpoint your issues and start a planned strategy in resolving those issues over time.

Our approach

There is no absolute cure for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. However, the behaviours and thoughts can be managed by medication, or therapy or by a combination of both. Here at Happy n Healthys, we concentrate on –

MINDFULNESS THERAPY:

You will learn to arrest your flow of thoughts and concentrate on the present with the help of Meditation and even some physical therapies that your counsellor will task you with

PSYCHOTHERAPY:

Cognitive behavioural therapy, along with Habit reversal therapy has been found to be effective in adults and children with OCD. It has been shown that with controlled exposure to certain situations that trigger certain compulsions, and not allowing the individual to follow through with the behaviour that follows has resulted in reduced compulsive behaviour over time. Our CBT therapists are qualified to help you create a healthy and productive thought pattern.

We will however customise our approach with each individual as symptoms manifest in unique ways for each individual. Reach out to Happy n Healthys for the best online psychological counselling for your issues today.
